run until the day runs out.
i started running in 2026 and quickly found my way into longer distances, trails, and ultramarathons. i'm based in michigan and mostly interested in the experience of running itself: the distance, the terrain, the people, and seeing how far the day can go.
this is the record.

a few firsts.
a small, growing record of the days that changed what running means to me.
on the
calendar.
deadfall
25k
a rolling singletrack loop through brighton's oak groves — the next race on the calendar and a step deeper into trail distance.
race information pendinghuron
100
the long-range mark: a full hundred-mile effort through southeast michigan's huron trail system.

just enough of the calendar to see where the next long day is waiting.
already
run.

crim
5 mile
the 10-mile got rerouted to a 5-mile after thunderstorms rolled through saginaw street — the whole field ran the shortened course. first crim finish, with the real 10-miler waiting in 2027.

mott lake
12.5k
a home course trail race at mott lake — bib 317, and a finish to build on before the bear lake and thumb coast starts next year.
times, so far.
not the point.
still worth keeping.
things seen
in motion.
not race photography. this is the view from inside it: bibs, medals, shoes, food, and the ordinary evidence of going somewhere under your own power.

every run lives
on strava.
full distances, splits, conditions, thoughts, and journal entries. this site keeps the curated record; strava keeps the whole day.

i'm chaz johnson, a runner based in michigan.
i came to running later than a lot of people do. what started as a simple way to move quickly became something much bigger. within a few months, i was running marathons, exploring trails, and eventually finding my way into ultramarathons.
i'm drawn to the parts of running that happen outside the finish line. the long stretches where it's just you and the road. unfamiliar trails. bad weather. empty tracks. aid stations. the people you meet along the way. the strange little rituals that develop when you spend enough time moving through the world on foot.
i don't approach running with a need to have everything figured out. i like seeing what happens when i keep showing up and give myself room to go farther.
this site is a record of that process. the races, the miles, the photographs, the places, the people, and everything that happens between them.
still running. still seeing where it goes.
